Oh, Thanksgiving. The day when it’s socially acceptable to eat until you collapse onto the couch with zombie-like precision. When the only cure for your turkey-induced coma is to eat yet another slice of pumpkin pie. It’s a time when all your people gather together. When you can stop, take a look around the room and say, “Well isn’t this nice.”
In case you didn’t catch it, today’s Thanksgiving in Canada.
And we here at Converge would just like to say, well, thanks. Because we’re cheesy like that.
Here are five things we’re particularly grateful for:
1. The readers
You, who for whatever reason, resonate with what we’re putting out there. The last few months have been a wild ride, as we’ve experienced an incredible increase in the amount of people who have gotten excited about our content. We’ve heard people respond (good and bad) to what we’ve published, and we love it. All of it. Thank you.
2. The contributors
Whether you’ve written for us, provided artwork, photography, or copy edited: you guys are the best. Without stuff to publish, we’re dead. Thanks for being creative geniuses, for having the courage to get personal and produce work that matters. (And for having patience and grace when we make unreasonable deadlines.)
3. The questions
It’s the ability to look at the why when something happens, and for the guts to clear your throat and put words to your doubts. Without curiosity leading people to ask uncomfortable questions, things would be a lot different in the world. We’re just grateful we can be a platform for some of those questions, and to live in a place where we’re free to voice them.
4. The Creator
Thank you, God, for breathing life into what we produce. For impacting people we will never meet, and for using our words to bring people together. We are daunted by the responsibility it brings, and honoured at the privilege. Thank you for your hope, and for allowing us a glimpse into your kingdom.
5. The breathing room
Last and most certainly least, we are thankful for the two glorious months in between turkey dinners. Recovery time is important. To this we give thanks.
