Here are a few songs I’m currently obsessing over.
Vampire Weekend “Modern Vampires Of The City”
I may be slightly biased, as Vampire Weekend is one of my all time favourite bands. But everyone agrees that this album is quality. Don’t believe me? Check out their 2013 Grammy for Best Alternative Album. Everything from the thought-provoking lyrics to the production quality to even the order of the songs come together to make one of best albums of 2013. This week, my favourite track has been “Unbelievers.”
Tokyo Police Club “Argentina (Parts I, II, III)”
These Canadian rockers release their fourth album “Forcefield” at the end of the month. And if their single “Argentina (Parts I, II, III)” is any indication as to the rest of the record, it will be a great one. The song is simple, using the tried and true elements of a great drumbeat, loud guitars, and clever lyrics to tell a great story. Classic Indie rock at its finest.
Phantogram “Black Out Days”
This New York duo has mastered the art of computer pop and this song showcases what these guys do best. I could try and explain what I love about the song, but I think the song speaks for itself.
Haim “If I Could Change Your Mind”
I love Haim. I really wish I had sisters so I could form a band just like them. I have been playing their 2013 debut album “Days are Gone” in anticipation of summer, and my current favourite is this gem, “If I Could Change Your Mind.” This song is all the best parts of the ”80s captured in a 3-minute song. They are seriously Pat Benatar reincarnated! These girls have got a good thing going and I am excited to see what 2014 has for them.
