The Intersection of Faith and Culture
We’ve inherited this body-brokenness. When we compare ourselves to a Victoria Secret model, worship our muscles at the gym, or loathe our sexuality after being abused, we forge a link between our bodies and our self-worth in a way that God never intended.
Ingrained within us is a desire to take the raw materials of God’s gracious gifts — colours, textures, language, emotions, to name a few — and try to make something that speaks truth, brings healing or facilitates worship.
St. Patrick’s day is really a memorial to the great Irish bishop and missionary St. Patrick—a man who was captured by Irish pirates and made a slave, escaped after six years, and returned a few years later to lead people to Christ.
Why would anyone write an entire song romanticizing short-lived, noncommittal relationships and all the emotional turmoil involved in them? Maybe because that’s exactly what the music industry does best.
There is a purpose to our pain. Even when we can’t feel that or we don’t know it to be true, we can trust it.
